These are the terms under which Hausmärchen is made available. By downloading or using the app you accept them. They are written to be readable; they are not less binding for being plain.
What Hausmärchen is
Hausmärchen is a native iOS reading app published by Solocosmo Studios. It bundles two hundred and forty-five tales of the Brothers Grimm — the canonical 1857 corpus, the 1812/1815 paralipomena (Lost Tales), and the ten Children's Legends — in four reading variants, with illustrations from seventeen public-domain and contemporary artists. The corpus is finite and self-contained. The app does not stream, fetch, or update content over the network.
Personal, non-commercial use
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on iOS devices you own or control, for your private enjoyment and for reading aloud in non-commercial settings (your home, a classroom, a library hour). You may not redistribute the app, the bundled tale texts, the Junior rewrites, or any portion of the illustration set as a separate product. You may not extract, scrape, mirror, or sell the contents.

- German source texts — sourced from de.wikisource.org under CC-BY-SA. The original Grimm texts are public domain.
- Victorian English translation — Margaret Hunt, 1884, public domain.
- Modern English variant — a rules-based modernization of Hunt's text, prepared by the studio for this app. © 2026 Solocosmo Studios. Bundled with the app under your personal-use license.
- Junior editions — original adaptations written for this app. © 2026 Solocosmo Studios. Bundled with the app under your personal-use license.
- Historical illustrations — public domain. Attribution is shown per-piece in the app and on the studio's public site.
- Contemporary illustrations by Jessica von Braun — © 2026 Jessica von Braun, used under license.
- Illustrations by Jasmine Becket-Griffith — released by the artist to the public domain under Creative Commons Zero (CC0).

Billing
The app is a free download. The optional "Hausmärchen Complete" unlock — full access to all four reading variants, all 35 paralipomena, all six hundred and sixty illustrations, the full Children's Mode library — is a one-time, non-consumable In-App Purchase for $9.99 USD (or its App Store local equivalent). The purchase is processed entirely by Apple. We do not see your payment details.
The Restore Purchases option in Settings re-reads your StoreKit entitlement and unlocks the same content on any device signed into the same Apple ID. Refunds are handled by Apple under its standard policy.
No account, no server
There is no Hausmärchen account. There is no Hausmärchen server. Your favorites, last-read position, parent PIN hash, and unlock entitlement live on the device. We have nothing to lose, breach, sell, or hand over because we hold nothing.
Children's Mode and parental responsibility
Children's Mode is a feature provided in good faith for parents and guardians who want to share the gentler tales with a child unattended. It is parent-locked behind a four-digit PIN with an escalating cooldown after three wrong tries. We make no guarantee that any technical filter is perfect; you remain the responsible adult. The Junior rewrites have been written specifically to remove on-page violence, but the tales themselves are still old tales — sorrow, danger, and magic do not vanish from them.
Provided as-is
Hausmärchen is provided on an as-is basis, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Solocosmo Studios and its principals will not be liable for incidental, consequential, special, indirect, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to the app, the bundled texts, or these terms.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the disclaimer of certain warranties; in those places this limitation applies only to the extent permitted.
Termination
You may stop using Hausmärchen at any time by deleting it from your device. The personal-use license granted by these terms ends when you do. We may end the license if you redistribute the app, mirror its contents, or violate Apple's terms of service in a way that affects the app.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by writing to us must be brought in the state or federal courts located in the State of New York.
If the terms change
If we update these terms, the new version will appear at this URL with a new "Last updated" date. Substantive changes will be summarized in the App Store release notes for the build that introduces them. Continued use of the app after a change indicates acceptance of the revised terms.
